Tallow (Cosmetic Grade)
Cosmetic Grade Tallow | Beef Tallow for Skincare & Soap Making
Bliss Essential Oil Company’s Cosmetic Grade Tallow is a rich, traditional emollient ingredient used in natural skincare, soap making, balms, body butters and other cosmetic formulations. Made from refined beef tallow, this ingredient is valued for its creamy skin feel, conditioning properties and ability to add body and richness to finished products.
Tallow is solid at room temperature and softens when gently warmed, making it easy to blend into anhydrous balms, salves, body butters, cold process soaps, hot process soaps and rich moisturising formulations. It is especially popular in products designed for dry skin, handmade soaps and traditional-style skincare.

FAQ
What is cosmetic grade tallow used for?
Cosmetic grade tallow is commonly used in handmade soap, balms, salves, body butters, creams, lotions and other skincare formulations where a rich, conditioning skin feel is desired.
Is tallow suitable for soap making?
Yes. Tallow is a traditional soap making ingredient and is often used in cold process and hot process soap to help create a firm bar with a creamy lather.
Is tallow vegan?
No. Tallow is derived from beef fat, so it is not suitable for vegan formulations.
Does tallow have a smell?
Cosmetic grade tallow may have a mild characteristic fatty odour. This is normal for the ingredient and may vary slightly between batches.
Can tallow be used directly on the skin?
Tallow can be used in anhydrous skincare products such as balms and body butters. As with any cosmetic ingredient, patch testing is recommended before applying to larger areas of skin.
Can I use tallow in creams and lotions?
Yes. Tallow can be incorporated into creams and lotions as part of the heated oil phase. The final formulation should be properly emulsified, preserved and tested for stability.
